Hoppin’ at The Hive!

D&D Foodmart at the opening reception for the Curiosities Exhibition

Wow, that was…amazing!

The opening night for our Curiosities exhibition was one of the most successful shows we’ve ever had, and we have the artists involvd to thank for that! The only way it could have been a better night was if all of the artists who participated were able to join us in the celebration of our first exhibition opening as a society.

Medicine Hat College’s Visual Communiations students were here with thier Pop-Up Swap Shop, which was a big hit and certainly added another element of interest. It was exciting to overhear comments from visitors throughout the night too! “This place is really cool”, “There’s some really cool stuff here”, “This is impressive for Medicine Hat”, and on and on and on.

The traveling musicians (D&D Foodmart) were the icing on the cake, lending a really festive and cultural atmosphere to it all!

If you weren’t able to make it last night the exhibition will be up until April 30th. Be sure to stop in and have a look at the amazing pieces from over 60 artists in Western Canada.

What makes The Hive art classes SPECIAL and GREAT?

Small class sizes mean lots of individualized attention and instruction.

Classes held among real working artist studios benefit from the atmosphere and energy of a vibrant art studio.

The Hive Artists’ Hub Society strives to promote local art and artists and supports the local art community. And since its proceeds from sales and classes are used in achieving this goal, when you buy products made at The Hive and register in its art classes and workshops you are actually helping the whole community!

The Hive offers reasonable fees and special rates, as well as maintains some subsidized spots in the children’s art classes, which means that art experiences are accessible to more people, and more children can benefit from art education.

The Hive art classes are fun!

Are there introductory DEALS?

Yes!

Hive members will always receive a $10 discount on all art classes. Also, to celebrate this introductory season of art classes, The Hive is offering an exceptionally great “Bring-A-Buddy” discount on all classes! FIX: A Painting Exhibition by Stephanie Dalla-Longa

Exciting things are happening at The Hive!

A group of past and present hive artists are poised to launch the new era of The Hive Artists’ Hub. Over the past month we have weighed our options for the future and have begun the process of formalizing as a Society. We plan to have this transition completed for January so we don’t see any lag time in operation.

Our current programming as an incubator site for artists to develop their micro businesses will change into more of a traditional studio rental space with attached boutique gallery. We will still help foster the business development aspect but it will be less formalized and done more on the initiative of the artists themselves. It has been a really great experience to this point and we are all looking forward to what the future holds for the Hive!

We will have 11 studios for rent ranging in size from roughly 60 square feet to nearly 240 square feet, with the average space being around 100 square feet, the majority of which will be open to a common area and open to public visitation during regular business hours. This is one of the features that makes The Hive a unique experience. The open studios not only allow the public access to the artists at work, but allow a great level of collaborative thought amongst the artists and foster a real sense of community. We will also be offering a few private, locked studios as well.

We are still working out the details on how much the studio rents, and what the application process for them will be, but we aim to make the Hive a safe and affordable place for all artists to create, display and promote their work.
